Logic and Reason

Why can’t reason and thought be the narrow-minded approach and a shot at blind faith be an open-minded approach?

Humans pride themselves on the ability to think and reason. Since the dawn of time, human existence has constantly been seeking the truth. Whether it comes to exploring the far reaches of the cosmos, down to the quantum scale, or deep into our consciousness we have made searching and knowing the human way of life. Through trials and tribulations we have reached the present day where many have concluded that the ideology of the scientific path of reasoning is the superior way.

How does one decide which path is superior? Why should we choose the path of reason and explanation,  instead of blind faith? There are infinitely many paths but we have used reasoning to conclude that the path of reasoning is better. This contradicts the very basis of reason. We are using reasoning to show that the path of reasoning is better while we haven’t proved that reasoning shows the better path. So we are proving something assuming it is true in the first place. Funnily enough, I am trying to use reason to see reason about the path of reason.

I am not saying or implying that blind faith is better. I am just trying to understand why reasoning holds such prominence with us. Consider the case where we use blind faith to come to the conclusion that blind faith is better than the path of reasoning.  In this case, we won't have a contradiction because one can have faith in the process that faith can be used to show faith is the right way. This does not violate the principles of faith in itself. On the other hand, we can also show faith is contradictory by having faith that using faith to show the path of faith is superior is not right.

This draws out the basic question as to why reasoning or in fact any path must be the better path to Truth. We haven’t found absolute Truth and we know nothing about it but somehow we claim to know enough to create an order as to what method will lead us to the Truth. Who decides that this order is right, and who decides that there even exists an order. This is the most non-scientific, a shot in blind faith approach of humans that I have seen. In conclusion it is preposterous for us to claim that reason is the path to Truth, for there is no reason to pursue to path of reason.
